Industry
Immigration & Visa
Duration
1 Year & Ongoing

Overview
The IVFRT program under the Ministry of Home Affairs is India’s national initiative to modernize all visa, immigration, and foreigners' services. I led UX strategy, service design, and user workflows to build a single unified portal and mobile app for foreigners, Indian institutions, officers, and seaport authorities.
The Challenge
Fragmented immigration services created inconsistent journeys across multiple government portals.
Approach
User research → persona definition → journey mapping → service architecture → IA → user flows → wireframes → UI → design system.

Process
Phase 1 — Research & System Understanding
Heuristic analysis of existing Bureau of Immigration (BoI), FRRO, Seaport, and visa portals
Mapped the workflows of services and identified major pain points
Created service blueprints for end-to-end user journey clarity
Phase 2 — Concept Design & UX Framework
Re-architected information flow into 5 intuitive service buckets
Created unified dashboards for foreigners and officers
Built interaction models for Visa Applications, OCI, Fast Track Immigration, e-FRRO and e-Arrival processes
Phase 3 — High-Level Reviews & Approvals
The project underwent multiple rounds of high-level evaluation:
Detailed walkthroughs with Joint Secretary & FRRO leadership
UI/UX presentation to the Home Secretary of India
Strategic alignment discussions with PMO (Prime Minister’s Office) for national rollout
Iterations based on security, compliance, and policy directives

Impact
Unified experience for 10M+ foreign visitors annually
Reduced physical FRRO visits by 40%
Accelerated service processing by up to 55%
