Industry
Public procurement / e-Commerce
Duration
12 months

Goal
Reimagine GeM as a transparent, efficient, and inclusive procurement ecosystem.
Support the end-to-end procurement journey from category creation to marketplace transactions.
Establish standardised workflows across diverse modules.
Ensure compliance with procurement policies and regulatory frameworks.
Introduce a unified design language and information architecture.Stage 2. Concept development and user flow design
Challenge
Platform was highly fragmented with multiple interconnected journeys lacking consistency and coherence.
Buyer, seller, and administrator workflows often broke down due to bottlenecks and navigation issues.
Overlapping role privileges created confusion and disrupted smooth task execution.
Policy alignment and audit trails were difficult to maintain across different journeys.
Absence of a unified design system resulted in a steep learning curve.
Overall complexity slowed procurement processes and hindered transparency, inclusivity, and stakeholder trust.

Outcome
Re-architected GeM into a scalable, role-sensitive, and future-ready system.
Introduced standardised workflows and scalable design patterns across the platform.
Simplified complex buyer–seller–admin interactions into intuitive digital journeys.
Embedded procurement policy compliance and audit visibility within workflows.
Reduced cognitive load through consistent design language and clear navigation.
Delivered Design Prototype to validate critical procurement flows before scaling.
Enabled robust, resilient processes through testing of both happy and unhappy paths.
Positioned GeM as India’s flagship digital procurement ecosystem.

Reflections
This project was an invaluable opportunity to apply UX/UI design principles in a real-world setting, contributing to a product that promotes social connectivity and culinary exploration. It challenged me to think creatively about how to meet user needs and preferences, enhancing my skills in research, design, and collaboration. The experience underscored the importance of user feedback in the design process and the impact of thoughtful design on user engagement and satisfaction.
